Romsey and District Carers Forum was established in 1996 to listen to and work with carers from Southern Test Valley and to support them in accessing the help and services they need.
The Forum is affiliated to Carers Together, the county consortium of carers. Both groups work closely together to achieve the aims listed below.

AIMS
- Identifying Carers and giving mutual support, sharing experiences for the benefit of carers
- Listening to carers with empathy and hearing what they say about their individual and group needs
- Helping carers to identify services available to meet their needs.
- Promoting and/or developing services to meet gaps in service provision
- Advocating for carers as needed
- Publicising the work of informal carers to give greater understanding of what it means to be a carer.
- Being a source of information for carers, especially those isolated because of their caring commitments or rural location.
- Helping to ensure that carers are included in the planning, development and implementation of services.
- Working in partnership with other organisations e.g. Romsey Area Information Network - RAIN, Test Valley Community Services, Romsey Disability Forum, Test Valley Borough Council and The Children’s Society, in order to maximise results for carers.

To ensure the aims are met, the Forum:
- Maintains an effective up to date information resource for carers and works with a number of local statutory and voluntary organisations to make sure this is widely available in Southern Test Valley.
- Provides a Carers Club where carers can offload their concerns raise any issues important to them, share support, experiences, information and advice.
- Organises regular consultation with carers on current health, social services or other issues important to carers.
- Provides informative leaflets and issues a regular newsletter to inform carers about the services available and how to access them.
- Arranges Carers Awareness Courses to give carers, especially new carers, informal training in a wide range of information and support including benefits, services to help maintain independence, managing stress etc.
- Provides voluntary advocates to support carers in dealing with health and social care professionals.
- Work together with groups and services that support carers either directly or indirectly in Southern Test Valley gain best value for carers.
